UCLA Campus

The AGE Summer Junior Program at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) gives students the unique opportunity to live and study English on the fabulous campus of a world famous university. During July and August students at our Summer Program at UCLA will live in a UCLA dormitory. During the weekdays students will take English classes in the mornings and be able to choose one of three activity programs: our Classic Program, University Explorer Program or Film Explorer Program. On the weekends students will be able to participate in optional Saturday activities and an included full-day excursion on Sunday.

  • University Explorer Program: Includes SAT/TOEFL lessons, university campus tours, and academic skills workshops.
  • Special UCLA Explorer Program: Film Explorer – participate in the filmmaking process with writing, acting, directing, and editing, and producing your own film!
  • Entrepreneurship Program: combine academics, training games and projects to understand business and entrepreneurship. (for students with intermediate level English and above)
  • Airport Transfer:Included in the transportation fee, valid for Saturday arrivals and departures between 9am – 9pm

Courses

Semi-Intensive English Course

Number of levels: up to 12

English level evaluation with multi-level placement: Placement testing includes a grammar section, a writing section, and an interview with the Director of Courses. The three separate components of the test allow us to make accurate placements for each of the student’s classes.

Grammar Structure and Usage

  • Teaches students the rules of grammar usage through communicative teaching methods.
  • Gives students the opportunity to practice using grammar in both speaking and writing.

Conversation, Listening, Vocabulary and Pronunciation

  • Gives students practice speaking in English and listening to and understanding English spoken by native speakers.
  • Provides students with feedback and special exercises to help improve pronunciation.

Entrepreneurship Course

Minimum Level: Intermediate

In lieu of English language classes in the morning, high-intermediate and advanced students, will have the option to join a content-based leadership and entrepreneurship course. During the afternoon, students will participate in one of the three afternoon activities offered at their campus including Classic (UCLA and Wheelock), University Explorer (UCLA and Wheelock), Film Explorer (UCLA) or Sports Explorer (Wheelock). The available start dates for the Entrepreneurship Program will be July 2, July 9, July 16 and July 23. This program is offered exclusively to high-level students who no longer require daily instruction in English language skills. Students will take a placement test upon arrival to determine if they meet the level requirements to participate in this program.

Accommodation at UCLA

  • Shared occupancy, full-board (half-board on Saturday and breakfast only on Sunday)
  • Rooms are furnished with beds, desks, chairs, closets and telephones
  • Students can use the room telephone to make local calls, or international calls with a calling card
  • Communal bathrooms on each floor
  • Linens and bath towels included, students can receive fresh linens from the front desk upon request
  • Bathrooms and common areas cleaned daily
  • Laundry facilities located in the dormitory (estimated $1.25 per wash, $1.25 per dry)
  • Free wireless internet in each room

  • Multiple computer labs on campus with free wi-fi
  • Access to UCLA’s John Wooden Center and Sunset Canyon Recreation Center – featuring pools, basketball courts, and gymnasiums

Activities Programs and Excursions

Students participate in afternoon activities Monday-Friday. Afternoon activities are compulsory and are included in the Junior Program package. Evening and Saturday activities are always optional and offered to all students. AGE always offer a combination of free and low-cost evening and Saturday activities. Afternoon Activities Program

Students at UCLA may choose from up to three different Activities Programs for their afternoon activity at no additional cost. Students may choose up to one program each week. Students must choose their selection at enrollment to ensure availability. AGE offers an optional week (California Cruiser) of exploration and excursions in Los Angeles. In lieu of classes and regular afternoon activities at UCLA students can spend the week going to a different and exciting destination each day.

  • Full-day Sunday excursions are included in the junior package
